After
researching how the automobile manufacturers plated parts originally, I
discovered it was done by vapour deposition in vacuum chambers.
Coincidentally, my father, Leo Vanderbyl,
at one time had built telescopes as a hobby and just happened to have a vacuum chamber.
He had purchased the chamber years before at a NASA auction and used it to
plate the lenses for his telescopes.
I'm sorry
to say my
father passed away on September 28th, 2003 at the age of 84. However,
right up to the year before his death, he continued to be active in the
company and assist me in developing and expanding the business to what it is today.
Shown to the right
is my father and the chamber that started it all.
